Orion Rowing Club
Orion is the UK's first and only rowing club catering for gay men and lesbians, based on the Thames in London (also known as the Tideway).

Founded as Outriggers in 1997, the organisation developed a membership of 40 rowers in its first year, and won medals in seven rowing events at the Gay Games in Amsterdam the following year. We were formally constituted as Orion Rowing Club and affililiated with the Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) in 1999. With the help of a recent Lottery grant from Awards to All, Orion is building on its success in local and international regattas to create a truly competitive club.
One primary aim of the grant is to broaden the club's reach to new members, and to support the commitment of the 40 active members currently competing. They include total novices and veterans as well as other experienced rowers. The grant will also enable the Club to buy new equipment and to develop its coaching resources.
Orion is currently recruiting new members, both experienced rowers and complete beginners to help build a seriously competitive club with a recognised record of success. To support this ambition, coaches and coxes are urgently needed to enable the rowing members to develop to their full potential.
Over the last three years the Club has introduced over 80 new people to the sport of rowing and the current membership represents a committed group who work hard in an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere to achieve results.
Like most clubs, Orion also has a busy social calendar, including regular events such as Club Dinners, contributing to a friendly and relaxed community of rowers at all levels.
